James E. Phelps 80, of Nashville, passed away on Sunday, June 16, 2019. James was born on February 2, 1939 in Huntsville, AL, the son of Chasmur Phelps and Sarah Beatrice Hall Phelps. He married Joan Odom, she survives. Also surviving is one son, Michael (Stephanie) Phelps of Smyrna; grandsons, James Phelps of Nashville, and Michael Phelps of Smyrna; and sisters, Delores Phillips of Murfreesboro, Flossie Byrams and Shirley Phelps of Guntersville, AL, and Louann Anderton of Geraldine, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Tony Phelps; and sisters, Francis Robbins and Betty Jones.
A gathering of family and friends will be from four o'clock until eight o'clock on Wednesday, June 19th, 2019 at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home, and from twelve o'clock to one o'clock on Thursday, June 20th. A Celebration of Life will be at one o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, June 20th, 2019 in Woodlawn's Dignity Hall. Burial will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Roger Stephens, Alan Hall, Ken Franks, Lester Hall, Jeff Odom, Mark Chasteen, Craig Odom, and Robert Pomeroy.
