Jan Talley, 80, of Nashville, TN, passed away on January 24, 2025. Born in Nashville, TN, to Louis and Evalein Little, she lived a full and vibrant life. A graduate in Social Science from Peabody College (now part of Vanderbilt), Jan dedicated much of her career to helping others as a caseworker for the Tennessee Department of Human Services and later with the US Census Bureau.
Jan was a woman of curiosity and passion, always eager to explore new ideas and experiences. Known as the "straw that stirred the drink" in every setting, she had an inquisitive mind and loved discovering new things, whether through reading, travel, or her deep knowledge of sports. Her love for movies, music, and politics was well-known, and she remained a lifelong, engaged Democrat who followed the ever-changing landscape of the world closely.
Her adventurous spirit took her to every state in the U.S., except Hawaii, which she longed to visit. Jan was also a lover of good food, often seeking out new restaurants to explore and savor. She found joy in the little moments, but her greatest joy came from the love of her family. Jan was deeply proud of her two sons, Reuben James and Justin Louis, and her grandson, Henry. She was also a devoted wife to her husband of 56 years, James Talley, and a loving mother-in-law to Rachel Talley. Jan's little blue heeler, Scout, was also a beloved companion.
A regular poll worker for many years, Jan took her civic duty seriously and believed in the power of democracy. Above all, she was a beautiful soul who loved life and lived it fully. She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Evalein Little, and two sisters, Phyllis Little and Mel Little-Rothstein.
Jan leaves behind a legacy of curiosity, compassion, and a deep love for life. Her family will carry on her spirit and will miss her dearly.
She is survived by her husband, James Talley; sons, Reuben James Talley and Justin Louis Talley; daughter-in-law, Rachel Talley; grandson, Henry Talley; and her cherished blue heeler, Scout.
A gathering of family and friends to honor Jan Talley will be held on Friday, January 31, 2025, from 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN 37204. The service will be followed by a celebration of life from 2:30 PM to 3:00 PM. All who knew Jan are invited to join her family in remembering her life and legacy.
