

Jane A Boram, 76 of Nashville, Tennessee passed away on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 in Nashville, Tennesse from a short illness due to brain cancer. Jane was born to Harold and Betty J Boram on January 15, 1947 in East Liverpool, Ohio. Jane married Robert Hinkel on August 4th 1974 in Cleveland, Ohio.
Rev. Boram, a graduate of Vanderbilt University Divinity School, is a retired pastor and mental health counselor. After retirement she volunteered as co-chair of NOAH’s (Nashville Organized for Action and Hope) Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) for four years (until November 2022); assisted in and obtained a judicial court order for bail reform in General Sessions Court, Davidson County. Finally, for the past 30 years, she volunteered with Nashville CARES, walked in the yearly AIDS walk and served as a “Buddy” for Nashville CARES terminal clients. Jane was a devoted wife to Bob and a dedicated mother to their special needs daughter, Diane, helping her experience life to the fullest.
As co-chair of the Criminal Justice Task Force (CJTF) she advocated for HEALS (Health Engagement and Liaison Services), a non-police response to the mentally ill in crisis and served on the Metro team to implement this pilot program, now called REACH (Responders Engaged and Committed to Help). The Metro team included members of the Nashville Health, Fire, and Emergency Communication Department. REACH launched on Feb. 1, 2023; through the program, a paramedic from the Nashville Fire Department with a master’s-level clinician from Nashville’s Mental Health Cooperative will be dispatched if a mentally ill person is in crisis.
In November 2022, Rev. Jane Boram was recognized by the Nashville Public Library’s is "Nashville Voices: Women Heroes" campaign to honor ordinary women doing extraordinary things in Nashville.
Jane is survived by her Husband, Robert Hinkel; Daughter, Diane Hinkel; Sister, Patricia S Pearson; Brothers, Dr. Lawrence H. Boram and Daniel E. Boram.
