

HERBERT, Jerome A. Sr. (Jerry) - of Nashville. Passed away Monday morning March 12, 2012 at age 88. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 58 years, Betty. Mr. Herbert was born and raised in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was a World War II veteran, serving as a medic attached to the 65th Infantry Division of the Third Army under General Patton. Using the GI Bill, he graduated from Central Academy of Art in Cincinnati, after which he moved to Nashville in 1950. He enjoyed a long successful career as a freelance commercial artist, drawing illustrations and renderings for many local businesses and the country music community in the 50's, 60's and 70's. His passion, however, was fine art. He was active in the Tennessee Art League early in his career and won many awards in local and regional art exhibits. He was a lifelong parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church where he served as Eucharistic minister, lector, and he was a member of the choir. He was also a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. He is on the wall of fame at the American Red Cross as a 100-pint donor. He is survived by four loving children, Mary Faragher, Jerry Herbert Jr. (Lee), Martha Merzbacher (Mike) and Becky Cheney (Rob), all of Nashville, eight grandchildren, John Herbert, Emily Herbert, Scott Faragher (Lua), Katie O'Bryan (Randy), Mary Beth Goodrum (Brent), Christopher Merzbacher, Warren Cheney and Caroline Cheney, as well as three great-granchildren, Aneece, Ava and Charlotte. He was a wonderful father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he is already greatly missed. Jerry's home in the late years of his life was Mary Queen of Angels Assisted Living Facility, where he enthusiastically participated in all events and was the life of the party. The family wishes to thank the nurses, caregivers and staff there, for the very special care and love they gave him over the years. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Fri., Mar. 16, 2012 at St. Ann Catholic Church with a visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice. Visitation will be from 3-7 p.m., Thur., Mar. 15 with a 7 p.m. Rosary at
