True to her name, Joy lived with a spirit of optimism that touched everyone she encountered. She had a remarkable gift for seeing beauty—in people, in places, and in the smallest details of life—and she shared that gift generously. As an accomplished interior designer, Joy transformed countless spaces into places of warmth and inspiration. Her talent and dedication earned her many awards, but those who knew her best would say her greatest work was the way she made others feel seen, loved, and truly at home.
Joy’s life was marked by a deep love for her family. She was a devoted mother, a proud and loving grandmother, and a cherished sister and daughter. Her kindness, gentle strength, and joyful spirit will live on in the lives of those she nurtured so well.
She was preceded in death by her beloved daughter, Kimberly Ann Curley; her mother, Gloria Evans Knoch; her father, Horace E. Knoch; her brother, Horace E. Knoch, Jr.; and her sister, Cindy Jane Knoch.
She is survived by her daughters, Jill Curley Brown (Kirk Brown) and Jan Curley Baker (Fred Baker); her grandchildren, Nolan Brown (Katy Brown), Loren Brown Thum (Zach Thum), Cole Brown, Ryan Powell, Matt Powell (Yadi Powell), and Hannah Powell Boyd (Taylor Boyd); her great-grandchildren, Paisley Boyd and Gage Boyd, Stella Powell, and Hudson Thum; and her siblings, Diane Knoch Pruett, Deborah Knoch Pursley, Lori Knoch Birckhead, Jerry Knoch, and Annmarie Knoch Kellerhals.
Joy’s life was a reflection of love given freely and joy shared abundantly. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the blessing of knowing her. Though we grieve her absence, we hold onto the love she gave so freely and the joy she brought into every room. Her legacy lives on in each life she touched.
A funeral Mass will be held at Cathedral of the Incarnation on Friday, May 1 at 10:00 a.m., with visitation from 9:00 to 9:45 a.m. prior to the service. In celebration of Joy’s love for beautiful colors, guests are warmly invited to wear vibrant colors in her honor.
An additional visitation will be held from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at 1718 Warfield Drive, Nashville.
