

Julia Mae King Smiley passed away Sunday, March 13, 2016. Julia was born on October 13th, 1929 to George and Bertha King. She grew up on a farm in Barbourville, Kentucky, the same town where she held titles for her beauty and performed weekly on a radio show as a trained operatic soprano. Fresh out of school, she went to work for AT&T as a long distance operator. She married Robert Henry Smiley in 1953 in Cincinnati, Ohio, where they were blessed with 6 children. She loved crossword puzzles, coffee, conversation, and any chance she had, she would travel. Julia was a devoted wife and mother, and is preceded in death by her husband of 35 years, Robert Henry Smiley, her parents, George and Bertha King, and her brother, Robert King. She is survived by her six children, Mike (Lisa) Smiley, Steve Smiley, Cynthia (Dan) Olphie, Vickey (Rick) Baltz, Greg (Vickie) Smiley, and Doug (Lea) Smiley; 14 grandchildren, 14.5 great-grandchildren, her siblings Ann Beard, Olivia (Offord) Farris, George (Pattie) King, and sister in law, Shirley King. Prayer service will be Wednesday, March 16, 2016 at ten o’clock in the morning, Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall. Gathering of family and friends, Tuesday from four o’clock until eight o’clock at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request memorials are made to Alive Hospice or Alzheimer’s Association. The family thanks everyone for their prayers, love, and support.
