Julian Cooley Scruggs Jr.

He was preceded in death by his parents Julian Cooley Scruggs and Cynthia Wall Scruggs. He was married to Phillys May for 60 years. She preceded him in death in 2010.

He is survived by: son Julian Cooley Scruggs III (Beth Porch), daughter Amy Scruggs McKelvey ( Thomas Harold, Jr.), grandchildren: Thomas H. ( Tripp ) McKelvey III ( Beth Estes ), Amy Scruggs Adams ( Kenneth Stanley IV ), Julian Cooley Scruggs IV ( Laura Graham), great grand-children: Elizabeth May (Lily), and Annabelle Lewis Adams, Julian Cooley V, Graham Houston Scruggs, and cousin Mariclare Warren Brown.

Julian attended grammar school at Parmer School. He graduated from Montgomery Bell Academy in 1946 where he was a member of Alpha Chi fraternity. He graduated from Vanderbilt University in 1950 where he received his degree in mechanical engineering and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity.

Julian was an avid golfer and enjoyed traveling with his golf buddies. He was a member of several social and civic organizations. He was a founding member of Saint George’s Episcopal Church, member of Belle Meade Country Club, Sons’ of the American Revolution and The Rotary Club. Julian spent his entire business career in the hardware and houseware industry. He first worked as a manufacturer’s representative at Julian C. Scruggs & Company with his father and later established his own manufacturing business, Madison Mill, Inc. He managed Madison Mill, Inc. with his son, son-in-law, and two grandsons and many dedicated employees.
