

She was born on March 9, 1923, near Lebanon, Tennessee, and grew up on Greenwood Farm. She was the daughter of the late Henry and Tressa Dean Waters. Mrs. Sewell met her late husband, John Young Sewell, at David Lipscomb College, and they wed on September 7, 1943. They were married for 61 years until his passing in 2004. Mrs. Sewell loved to motivate and help others in need: She participated in mission work in Syracuse, New York during World War II, served multiple terms as a PTA President, and tutored an inner city teen named Ronald. She worked as a homemaker for most of her life before becoming a Research Interviewer with 2020 Research. Mrs. Sewell learned how to paint in her sixties. In addition to painting, she enjoyed reading, giving encouragement, and coming up with witty remarks. She was an involved and devoted member at Lebanon Road Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, John Young Sewell; daughter, JoAnne Sewell Northcutt; and siblings, Henry Waters, Margaret Reed, and David Waters.
Mrs. Sewell is survived by her daughter, Evelyn Talbert and her husband, Glenn; two sons, John Sewell and his wife, Cindy, and Robert Sewell and his wife, Janice; eight grandchildren, Suzanne Simms and her husband, JK, Daniel Talbert and his wife, Jill, Andrew Talbert and his fiancé, Andrea, Amity McGinnis and her husband, Joel, Jeremy Sewell, Stephanie Kincade and her husband, Richard, Erin Fried and her husband, A.J., and Matthew Sewell; ten great grandchildren, Kendrick Simms, Abby Simms, George Simms, Audrey Talbert, Foster Talbert, Faelan McGinnis, Mab McGinnis, Rhona McGinnis, Oliver Fried, and Isaac Fried, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation with the family will be on Friday, May 12, 2017 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm, and on Saturday, May 13, 2017 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm.
The Celebration of Life Service will be on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home at 2:00 pm with Harry Middleton officiating.
Interment will follow at Wilson County Memorial Park.
Serving as pallbearers are Daniel Talbert, Andrew Talbert, Jeremy Sewell, Matthew Sewell, JK Simms, Kendrick Simms, Joel McGinnis, Richard Kincaid, and honorary pallbearer, George Simms.
