Ken was born in London, England on September 8, 1931. His Methodist parents, Edward and Martha White, were both Brits. Ken had an older brother named Ted, and later a younger half sister named, Wendy. As a young boy in 1940 he experienced first hand the blitzkrieg, the German bombing of London. During World War II his father, Edward, fought the Germans as a British Army soldier. It was probably during this long anxious wartime that Ken developed his strong sense of family. Family always mattered.
Kenneth fell in love and married Evelyn Smith in 1952. In 1955 they excitedly immigrated to America, Chicago specifically, and began living the American dream. Ken's father had immigrated to Chicago some years before, so this was a big reunion. They also made many great friends while living there for 5 years. Ken found work and a career with The Methodist Publishing House. Life was good.
In 1960, as a result of Ken being transferred with The Methodist Publishing House, Eve and Ken relocated to Nashville, TN. Computers had become Ken's vocation. He was sent to Nashville to help set up their new computer operation. Ken and Eve flourished in Nashville. They made fabulous friends. They bought a home in the suburb of Donelson. Their first son, Kent, was born in December of 1960. Their second son, Steve, was born in October of 1962. Eve and Ken became active members and leaders of the Hickory Bend United Methodist Church. Life was good.
In 1968 Ken and Eve White proudly became American citizens. But they never quit being British. They were always British.
Ken and Eve provided Steve and Kent with wonderful childhood and teenage years. Ken emphasized sports and competition. Steve and Kent became competitive swimmers and water polo players. Eve emphasized education and life preparation. Both emphasized family values and showered their children with love. Life was good.
In July of 1988 Steve and his wife, Sandra, had a daughter, Nickie. Ken and Eve became bloodline grandparents. They were overjoyed. Life was good.
Ken left The Methodist Publishing House in the early 1970's and began his second career with The State Of TN in their computer dept. He retired from The State in 1996 and never looked back. In his retirement Ken immersed himself in antique clock restoration and collecting, a passion he had for many decades prior and after. He and Eve both enjoyed antiquing throughout retirement and had several antique booths around Nashville. Ken also enjoyed exercising, specifically swimming and water aerobics. He was a fanatic. They were both busy during retirement. Life was good.
Steve passed away in July of 2012. Life was sad that period. He is missed. But life goes on.
Eve passed away May 29, 2022 at the age of 90. Life was sad that period too. She is missed. But still life goes on.
After Eve's death, Ken continued to live independently, successfully, and happily in their home until he succumbed to respiratory illness in late November of 2024. While recovering in rehab Ken died unexpectedly on December 22, 2024 from a seizure. He died a happy man. He was full of optimism about being discharged and coming home. Death was literally the last thing on his mind. It was sad when he went, but it was simply his time to go. 93 years, that's a good run. Ken had a wonderful life. He's on to a better one now. Rest In Peace, Ken White. You touched a lot of people and enriched many lives. Life is good.
