

CROWDER, Lee Ollen, Sr. age 90, passed away November 25, 2011, in Nashville, Davidson, County, TN. He was born on May 29, 1921 in Cottontown, Sumner County, TN, to the late, Alvin Lee & Bessie Estella (Roach) Crowder. Mr. Crowder attended White House High School. After marriage, he moved to Nashville, to work for Piggly Wiggly Food Stores, later becoming Assistant Store Manger & Food Dept. Manager. He was a WWII Army Veteran, drafted in 1943, serving in Italy & France with the 45th Division/Oklahoma Indians as a mortar Spotter. He was wounded in 1944 during an artillery barrage, & returned to the USA, undergoing multiple surgeries on his legs. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Army Campaign Medal with Three Bronze stars. He spent his career, as the Owner of an Esso/Exxon Service Center at the corner of 10th & Woodland, in East Nashville, which was relocated to 5th & Woodland for 32 years, were he was nicknamed, “Ollie”, by his customers. He was a longtime member of Una Baptist Church, where he served as Deacon. He was an avid fisherman & hunter. After retirement, he enjoyed vegetable gardening, sharing with friends & church members. He is preceded in death by his Parents, 1st wife of 55 years, Eva Nell Wright Crowder; Sisters’, Beatrice Crowder Cook & Helen Crowder Harper Grubbs. He is Survived by his wife, Helen D. Jarvis Crowder; son, Lee Ollen (Sarah) Crowder, Jr.; Grandchildren, Christopher Lee (Beverly) Crowder of Nairobi, Kenya & Mary Anne Crowder (Tommy) Locke, Thompson Station, TN; sister, Ethelyne Crowder McElroy, Akron, Ohio; Great-Grandchildren, Madison Rae Locke, Sydney Anne Locke, Thomas Ollen Crowder, Jonathan Lee Crowder & Bethlehem Joy Crowder. Funeral Services will be held, 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, November 29th 2011 in Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with Interment to Follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The Family will receive friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Monday, November 28th at Woodlawn-Roesch-Patton Funeral Home and Memorial Park, Nashville, TN. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alive Hospice or UNA Baptist Church.
