Lynn Stieffen Haggard

Lynn Stieffen Haggard departed this life on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, surrounded by her family. Lynn was born in Newport News, Virginia to Wallace and Jacqueline Stieffen, both of whom preceded her in death. Raised in Hampton, Virginia, Lynn was an avid horseback rider, reader, and general charmer. She graduated from Kecoughtan High School in 1970, thereafter attending Christopher Newport University where her attendance at a party changed the course of her life. Lynn went home that same night to let her mother know she had met the man she was going to marry. Lynn had that magic way about her; if she said she was going to do something, she did. Six months later, Lynn and Jimmy Haggard were married. The couple celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 30, 2023.

Lynn was a devoted educator who dedicated her career to elementary school education, starting out with Asbury Elementary School in 1988 and later retiring from Coventry Elementary School in York County. Lynn embraced retirement becoming active in Bruton Parish Episcopal Church; enjoying dinner club with friends; and becoming a triathlete through golf, bocce ball, and canasta. In 2019, Lynn and Jimmy moved to Nashville, TN to be closer to their grandchildren.

Lynn was a firecracker, endlessly charming with a heart too big for this world. She loved generously and fiercely; lived life in bright, jewel-toned color; and left anyone lucky enough to spend time with her better for having known her. She would give anyone the shirt off her back or shoes in her closet if it brought that someone joy. We will forever miss her light.

Lynn Haggard is survived by her husband, Jimmy; daughter, Meredith Maust (Brock); son Marshall Haggard (Lucy); and grandchildren, Bebe (7), James (4) and Esther (3). Lynn wished for all services to be held in her home state, Virginia. Family and Friends are welcome to join us in celebration of Lynn’s life from 2 PM to 4PM at the Hampton Yacht Club Saturday, June 15, 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to a charity of the donor’s choosing.
