LOWE, Margaret Helen Age 21, September 1, 2015. Beloved daughter of Sandy and Whitson and sister to John and Mark, died unexpectedly as a result of a brain hemorrhage while on a run at the University of Virginia.
She attended The Ensworth School, graduated from Harpeth Hall with honors and was pursuing a Classics Major at the University of Virginia with plans to graduate in May, hike the Appalachian Trail and attend Medical School.
A true Christian woman and exemplary athlete, Margaret's personal integrity allowed her to live by her principles and choices. As a student at Harpeth Hall she excelled in the classroom, in her community and in sports. In her time at UVA, she was dedicated to many organizations in and outside of the University. In addition to her membership in Pi Beta Phi, she was a leader within the Inter-Sorority Council. She volunteered for Madison House and she had just begun her second consecutive year as the co-chair of ADAPT (Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention Team) and had led various educational efforts aimed at reducing the risks of alcohol and drug use among her peers. She was involved in the Reformed University Fellowship and was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlottesville. She participated in Bike and Build in 2014 and 2015, biking this past summer from coast to coast to promote affordable housing and raise funds for its cause. She was a counselor and coordinator for Camp Kesem in Charlottesville, providing support for children whose parents have cancer.
Margaret’s infectious smile, blond hair and big blue eyes filled the room. Her caring, warm heart and dedication to service made a major impact to those surrounding her. She was a positive influence to so many. In the brief autobiography she wrote for Bike and Build (bikeandbuild.org/rider/7659), she described her passion for life, including her commitment to wellness and her love of sports.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 5 at West End United Methodist Church from 9:00-11:00 am with the service immediately following. Burial will be at 2:00 pm in Cookeville, Tennessee at the family grave site.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Camp Kesem and Bike and Build.
