Marion A. Katz, 92, a multi-talented designer, world-traveler, and arts patron, died August 2, 2020. She was born in Breslau, Germany on May 6, 1928, to Greta and Emil Rosenberg, who encouraged her creativity.
Trained at Montclair State College and in Paris, France, she worked as a patternmaker and later became a successful fabric designer. And, who else but she would have owned a tuxedo cat named Picasso?
Marion married Peter Katz in 1951 and they raised their sons in New York and New Jersey, before moving to Nashville. When they weren’t attending art shows, concerts, playing tennis, or tending their beautiful garden, they traveled extensively. An excellent cook and avid bird-watcher, she was a longtime member of The Temple, Hadassah, and the National Council of Jewish Women.
Marion was predeceased by her beloved husband, Peter, and her much adored companion, Jack Couch. Two sons; her three grandchildren; Rachel Katz Cherry/Ben, Julian Katz and Raven Katz; great-grandson, Mark; and a wide circle of loving friends survive her.
Very special thanks to her devoted caregivers: Sheila Moore, Irene Watson, Star Moore, and Shamika Fisher. A virtual celebration of her life will be held on a date to be announced. Per her wish, Marion’s ashes will join Peter’s, in a magnificent ceramic vessel she handcrafted, before making their final journey together.
Gifts in memory of Marion may be made to the Marion and Peter Katz Fund at the Blair School of Music, Vanderbilt University.
