Martha Harris Matlock, age 102, of Nashville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family. She lived a long and meaningful life defined by love, faith, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Martha was married to her beloved husband, Roy Matlock, Sr. for 70 years. Their marriage stood as a rare and beautiful example of lifelong commitment and partnership. Roy preceded her in death at the age of 90, and Martha carried his memory with her throughout her life.
Together, they were blessed with five children, all of whom were present by her side at the time of her passing—an extraordinary reflection of the strong family bond she nurtured over more than a century.
Martha and her husband, Roy, were longtime members of Judson Baptist Church, where their faith and commitment to their church family were an important part of their lives. They faithfully sat together in the center section, second row—a place that became familiar to many and reflected their steady presence in the life of the church.
She is survived by her children:
• Linda Joyce Matlock
• Judy Matlock Whitaker and her husband, Johnny Whitaker
• Mickie Matlock Woods
• Roy Matlock Jr.
• William Thomas Matlock II and his wife, Cindy Montano Matlock
Martha was the proud grandmother of 12 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren, leaving a living legacy that spans five generations.
Martha’s life touched an entire century and beyond. She will be remembered for her strength, wisdom, grace, and the quiet, steady love she poured into her family. She also enjoyed an active social life and was an avid bridge player at the Nashville Women’s Club and at Richland Country Club, where she formed many lasting friendships. She was a self-taught seamstress who made extraordinary clothing for her girls, including formals and prom dresses. Her legacy lives on through every generation she helped shape.
