

Born October 2, 1926 in Charleston, South Carolina, died December 2, 2016 in Nashville after a sudden cardiac event. A registered nurse specializing in cardiac and intensive care, Mary attended the Catholic University’s School of Nursing in Washington D.C., where she graduated magna cum laude in 1948. Locally in Tennessee, Mary practiced her profession at the Vanderbilt University Medical Center and Memorial Hospital (now Tennova) in Clarksville. She also worked in public health in New York City and Des Moines.
She was married to George J. Ene, who died in 1985 following a career in journalism at the Nashville Banner, the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle and the U.S. Air Force. Her parents were Lawrence Maher, a career Coast Guard officer and Mary Elizabeth (Libby) Maher, a nurse.
Mary was one of six original residents of the Cloisters at St. Henry's, where she served on the board of its homeowners association. An avid bridge player, she was an active and engaged member of her community.
She is survived by her four children, Olivia Underwood of Pleasant View, Christopher Wilson and Lydia Wilson of Nashville, and Timothy Ene of Boulder, Colorado. Mary has five grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great great grandchild.
Visitation will be at St. Henry's Catholic Church, located at 6401 Harding Pike in Nashville, starting at 11am on Monday, December 5th, with her funeral mass at 1pm.
