Mary Jordan Lovell

Mary Jordan Lovell was born in Warrenville, SC, and passed away on November 24, 2020, at the age of 91, after contracting Covid-19. She is preceded in death by her husband of almost 65 years, James C. Lovell, Jr., and is survived by three daughters Paula Lovell, Reecy Pearson (Brooks) and Beth Williamson (Jack), as well as her grandson James Thomas Lovell.

After raising three daughters and supporting her husband through his highly successful career, which included moving to more than 15 US cities, Mary volunteered for several of her favorite nonprofit organizations. It was then that she began a two-decade stint of annual adventures in world travel. She was a passionate learner about other cultures and their histories, and she made more than 25 international trips to explore her interests. She relished her visits to hundreds of cosmopolitan cities, quaint European towns, exotic villages, and historical monuments and sites, many of which are no longer available for the public to experience. From Stonehenge to Cape Horn to the Taj Mahal to a slow stroll past Lenin’s corpse to a blessing from the Pope, Mary learned from and cherished it all.

As a result of her cultural explorations and as an avid reader who devoured a book a week for most of her life, Mary left her daughters and grandson with a passionate appreciation for the written word and a healthy acceptance and inclusion of all people, no matter their race, creed or gender. For that, they are extremely grateful.

Mary loved any day at any beach, jitterbugging with her handsome husband and Wednesday lunches with her grandson.

Her family extends special thanks to the wonderful people who cared for her at Park Manor, where she had the opportunity to meet many new friends. Out of respect for everyone’s safety and health, the family will have a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Park Manor Independent Living or Alive Hospice.
