Michael Dybicz was a devoted husband, father and retail executive whose kindness, generosity and humor touched countless lives. Known for his quick wit, deep compassion and ability to form lasting friendships, he will be remembered by all who knew him.
He was married for 63 years to his beloved wife, Joan, whose love and partnership were an inspiration. Michael was a devoted father to his son, Michael, and shared a close and loving bond with his daughter-in-law, Judy Takats, whom he cherished like a daughter.
Born in Chester, Pennsylvania, to Adele (née Wilenski) and Michael Dybicz, he grew up in Philadelphia and spent most of his life in New Jersey before retiring to Clermont, Florida. In 2024, he and Joan moved to Nashville to be closer to their son and daughter-in-law.
Michael enjoyed a long and distinguished career in retail, beginning with Kresge Stores and continuing with McCrory’s and Spencer Gifts. Over the decades, he rose to leadership roles in operations and human resources, mentoring hundreds of colleagues and opening retail stores across the country. He played a key role in Spencer’s international expansion, including Spirit Halloween and openings as far as England. Known for his tireless work ethic, insight and infectious smile, Michael built a career defined not only by business achievements, but by the people he supported and inspired.
A man of strong Catholic faith, Michael was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for more than 20 years, serving as a Fourth Degree Knight with the Blessed Sacrament Assembly in Clermont, Florida. He held several leadership roles, including Warden and Inner Sentinel, and was honored as Knight of the Year. His fellow Knights voted him, out of all who served for 20 years, with a service recognition and award for his contributions. He also served as Family Chairman, faithfully supporting sick council members and the families of deceased Knights. Beyond his parish, he volunteered in the Kings Ridge community, giving generously of his time and talents.
Michael proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1957 to 1959, achieving the rank of Specialist Fifth Class before receiving his honorable discharge.
Beyond his career and service, Michael loved traveling with Joan, exploring countries around the world, and later enjoying cruises with dear friends. He was happiest in the company of others—sharing stories, laughter and friendship. He also had a lifelong love of animals.
Michael passed away peacefully on August 21, 2025, in Nashville, Tennessee, with his wife, son, and daughter-in-law by his side.
He is survived by his wife, Joan; his son, Michael, and daughter-in-law, Judy of Nashville; his brother, Anthony (Tony) Dybicz of Pennsylvania; and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Adele and Michael, and sisters, Emily Ochrymowicz (Francis) and Barbara Rachko (Robert).
Michael’s warmth, devotion and faith leave a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a local animal rescue organization, Towers to Tunnels, St Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or with a Mass card in his name—gestures that would have deeply touched him. He is deeply missed, cherished, and always be remembered as the selfless man he was.
A Funeral Mass will be held in Florida at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Clermont, FL (dates/times to be provided later). Interment will take place at Florida National Military Cemetery in Bushnell, FL with Military Honors as he wished.
