BROWN, Mildred H., passed away peacefully on Friday, July 8, 2016, which is really unlike the way she lived her life. She was a feisty 80-year-old who lived on her own terms and loved showing her stubborn side. She grew up with a large family and plenty of stories to tell about life on the farm, and then began exploring the world when she married a military man. Her heart swelled with pride as a Navy wife to WO2 Stanley G. Brown, who spent more than 20 years serving our country. After his retirement, she climbed the ranks in the banking industry until they settled down in the country again and opened their own business. When her husband was called to heaven, Mildred continued her travels and wore out the highways with her sister until finally landing in Florida for a number of years. She recently moved back to Nashville to spend her last few months with those closest to her before joining her husband and five of her siblings in heaven. They’re now having one heck of a family reunion, and we’re confident that her nickname “Party Doll” is in full force again. As a military wife, mom to Sandra A. Bell, and “Special Grandma” to Brandi M. Forbes (husband Tom) and Army SPC Jestin K. Bell (wife Melissa), she taught us lessons about being independent yet supportive, fiercely loyal, and steadfast in our decisions. She is survived by her daughter and two grandchildren, noted above, as well as her siblings Pat Smith, Brenda Batts, and Odell Hollis and sister-in-law MaryAnn Hollis, and Don Hollis and sister-in-law Wanda Hollis. She is predeceased by her siblings Bet Lawrence, Gin Gallaher, Dot McDowell, GW Hollis, and Buddy Hollis. A Celebration of Life will be held Tuesday, July 12, 2016, at two thirty, Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall and gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to service at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Tom Forbes, Odell Hollis, Roger Hollis, Tony Hollis, and Randy Hollis will act as Pallbearers with her brother, Donald Hollis, being named Honorary Pallbearer. In lieu of flowers, please consider a memorial donation to The Fisher House who provides military and veterans’ families with housing close to a loved one during hospitalization for an illness, disease or injury. http://www.FisherHouse.org Visit the online obituary: www.woodlawn-roesch-pattonfh.com.
