When Lois was a young girl, her family moved to the "big city" of Donelson. Lois graduated from Donelson High School, where she was homecoming queen and salutatorian. She went on to work as a bookkeeper at Life & Casualty Insurance Co. In December of 1946, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bruce Overfield. They had two daughters, Becky and Beth, and Lois became a full time homemaker. Though Bruce unexpectedly passed away at the age of fifty-two, he and Lois spent thirty joyful year of marriage together.
Lois was an excellent seamstress who loved to cook, read, and play in her many Bridge clubs. She always enjoyed shopping trips; she could spot a bargain from a mile away, especially at her favorite shop, Southern Thrift. She looked forward to the warm weather every year, because it meant gardening in her flowerbeds and trips to the beach with her family and friends.
Lois was a member of Andrew Price Methodist Church and attended Anna Gay's Sunday School Class. She easily made friends of all ages until the day she died. You could always hear her say, "I've had a good life." How wonderful that she felt that way at the end of her days.
