

Peter Ellis Rumsey, 75, of Nashville, TN, died peacefully Saturday morning, January 20, 2018. Peter was born August 6, 1942 to George Ellis Rumsey and Dolores Howley Rumsey in Ridley Park, PA, where he grew up with his sister and two brothers. He graduated from St. James High School in Chester, PA. In 1964, he graduated from the University of Notre Dame, and that same year, married Nancy Sherman in Winnetka, IL. While a newlywed in Philadelphia, Peter earned his Masters in Business Administration from the prestigious Wharton School and later obtained a Doctor of Jurisprudence from Loyola University in Chicago. Peter worked as a business executive specializing in transportation and sales for companies including Boeing, Amoco, Marquette Cement and Manufacturing Company, Gulf & Western Industries, and Pen Coal Company before retiring as Vice President of Sales at Ingram Barge Company in Nashville. Peter was a passionate Notre Dame sports fan and a devoted grandfather. His interests included antique clocks, golf, history, and the music of the 50s and 60s. Peter was preceded in death by his parents and brother Michael. He is survived by his wife Nancy, brother Clifford, sister Patricia Ricci, daughter Sean McCracken (Glen), son David Rumsey (Molly), and his three beloved grandchildren, Ava, Flynn, and Lily.
The visitation service with the family will be at St. Henry’s Church from 9 a.m to 10 a.m. on Friday January 26th , with a funeral mass immediately following at 10 a.m.
