"Celebrating a Life Well-Lived"
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Rachel Ann Myrick Green. Her life was a testament to kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit. Surrounded by loved ones, she left this world peacefully, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew her.
"Life and Legacy"
Rachel was the only child of George Houston and Zada Belle Myrick of Flintville, Tennessee. Born on November 17, 1926 and raised in a loving home, she devoted her life to helping others and making the world a better place. Whether through her career, volunteer work, or personal relationships, she touched countless lives with strength, warmth and compassion. Friends and family recall her infectious laughter, wise counsel, and steadfast support in both joyful and challenging times.
As a child in Lincoln County she enjoyed a rural upbringing, living on the Myrick family farm. Her family moved to Nashville when she was in middle school. While attending Hume Fogg High School, at 5'10", she was a key member of the varsity girls' basketball team. After graduating in 1944, she was employed by the U.S. Navy in a civilian capacity. Post-war she joined the Veteran's Administration where she worked until her retirement. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Nashville until her later years where she attended the Joy Class at Donelson First Baptist Church.
She loved gardening and the outdoors. Everywhere she lived she cultivated flowers and restful places. She was a lifelong seamstress making clothing, quilts and draperies. Her home was always open to family and friends and she took great delight in caring for her grandchildren.
"Family and Friends"
Rachel is survived by a devoted family who will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her former husband, Jack E. Green and granddaughter Krista Wilson Martin and survived by her children, Donna M. Pence Wilson (Charles), Rebecca Green Posey (Jim), and Jack E. Green, Jr. as well as grandchildren, Michael Williams (Samantha), Jessica Williams Andersen (Cory), Alexis Pence Christiansen (Bryan), Lauren Wilson-Cooper (Christina), Christopher Sorensen (JoBeth), Marla Allen and Amber Green Leichtfuss (Luther) as well as twelve great-grandchildren. Her memory lives on in the stories shared, the lessons taught, and the love given so freely throughout her life. Each person who knew her feels grateful for the time spent together and the impact she made.
