Randall David McDowell, age 64, a native of Nashville, joined his beloved twin brother Dennis and parents Patty and Bob in heaven on February 2, 2021. He passed away peacefully in his sleep. Preceded in death by his grandparents, Roscoe B. and Mary (Boyer) McDowell, Thomas W. and Mamie (Bright) Cobb; parents, Robert A. and Marilyn Patricia (Cobb) McDowell; and twin brother Richard Dennis McDowell. Survived by older brother Robert A. McDowell, Jr.; nieces, Patricia McDowell Scott (Worth), Jennifer Rachel McDowell and Emma Bright McDowell; great-nephews Worthen Scott and Jeffrey Scott; and other family members.
David attended grade school at The Oak Hill School and was a graduate of Battle Ground Academy, Class of 1975. He then earned a Business Administration degree (’79) and Masters in Business Administration (’83) from Rollins College in Winter Park Florida where he was a proud member of the rowing team.
David enjoyed a fulfilling and successful career in commercial real estate, most recently as a retail leasing broker with Colliers International. In addition, he was a long-time member of the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC). His success allowed him a great deal of time to pursue his loves of sailing, perfecting the culinary arts, and strengthening his relationship with Christ, as a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church.
David was a true and loyal friend who never met a stranger. Whether he was picking up a smoothie at the neighborhood market, taking his cherished sailboat out at the Marina, or enjoying a Sunday service at Westminster with the ‘back pew crew’, he made friends wherever he went. He was blessed to be cherished and loved by so many, all part of the ‘Dav-o army,’ who rallied around and supported him as he faced health issues in the last few years of his life.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Battle Ground Academy (336 Ernest Rice Ln, Franklin, TN 37069) in David’s name.
A memorial service with limited attendance will be held on February 15, 2021 at 10:30 am at Westminster Presbyterian Church, Nashville. The service will be streamed live via the church’s website.
A graveside service, open to all, will follow at 12:30 pm at Woodlawn Memorial Park, 660 Thompson Ln, Nashville, TN.
