Richard M. Johnston

Richard M. Johnston, Age 90, of Old Hickory, TN, passed away Sunday Morning, February 19, 2017, at home after a long heart illness. He is survived by his loving wife of 70 years, Nita Mills Johnston, daughter Judy (Bill) Merrell, sister Billie Gaines, 3 Grandchildren, Wendy, Trey, and Chase Clark. He had 9 great-grandchildren and one new great-great grandson. Mr. Johnston was preceded in death by his son, Ricky Johnston.

Mr. Johnston served active duty at Iwo Jima in WWII with the U. S. Navy. He attended Vanderbilt University.

A graduate of Giles Co. High School, he grew up in Pulaski, TN. A retiree of Ford Glass Plant, Mr. Johnston was an avid outdoorsman. Fishing and hunting were his life-long passions. Dale Hollow Lake was his sanctuary.

He was a member of Lebanon Rd. Church of Christ and lived in Donelson, TN, most of his adult life.

A Celebration of Life service will be conducted Thursday, February 23, 2017, at 11 A M Mount Olivet Chapel. Pallbearers: Jimmy Hughey, Mike Hughey, Tony Gaines, Rusty Gaines, Grant Gaines, and Bob Sullivan

Honorary Pallbearers: Bobby Wilder, Harold Maddux, Pete Kennedy, Jim Gaines, A.J. Ward, Gene Shields, Dr. Ben Birdwell, Allen Herald, Gene Austin, and Mark Taylor. Interment will follow in the Mount Olivet Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 5 pm until 8 pm, and Thursday from 10 AM until the hour of the service at Mount Olivet.
