Robert F. (Bobby) Glaus, Jr., passed from this earthly life May 30, 2018, and now has relief from the devastating Stage 4 cancer he courageously fought for three years. He was a warrior in his battle and enjoyed excellent quality of life until the last few weeks of his battle.
Robert was known to his oldest friends as Bobby, and to his wife of 10 years, Dianne, and more recent friends as Robert. He never cared what people called him and always had a smile for everyone. Most everyone he knew was on first name basis.
Robert was born in Nashville, a rare native, and graduated from Central High School in Nashville. He had certifications for most all skills mechanical and could “fix most anything.” Robert retired from the United Methodist Publishing House after 25 years, where he was Facilities Manager. He immediately went to work as Facilities Manager at the new Ensworth High School in 2004, where he spent the remainder of his working years. In spite of his cancer battle, he worked until a few weeks before his death. He loved Ensworth and almost never missed a ball game, play, or other special event there.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, Helen Haynes Glaus and Robert Fletcher Glaus, Sr.; grandmother Viola Haynes, grandfather George Haynes; uncles Jerry Glaus, Maurice Haynes, Robert Haynes and Howard Haynes; aunt Robbie Jean Haynes; great aunts Gertrude and Gladys Keller.
In addition to wife, Dianne Watkins Glaus, Robert is survived by son, James Robert (Robby) Glaus; step-sons John and Stanley Church; former wife Jeannine Glaus; aunt Joan Haynes; cousins Danny Haynes, Ricky Haynes and Rebecca Hart; devoted dog Chloe and fussy cat, Middy. He is also survived by a host of friends from Ensworth; from his weekend flea market business in Crossville and Monteagle, TN; from his early days as a disco DJ; and many friends he just met along the way.
Funeral service will be at eleven o'clock Wednesday, June 6 at Brentwood United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Wilson officiating and Pastor Steve Durham of Sunset Hills Baptist Church assisting. Visitation is Wednesday at ten o'clock in the church Narthex and also on Tuesday, June 5 from four o'clock until eight o'clock at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park.
Pallbearers are: Darrell Green, Ricky Haynes, Bradley Peterson, Edward Rueger, Bud Sanders and Bo Sanders.
Honorary pallbearers are: Damon Jon Strange and Darryl Wells; Ensworth Maintenance Staff – Paul Adams, Mark Raines, Joab Richardson, Steve Roper, Scott Sanders, Connor Schutzman, Andrew Smith, Ron Walker, and Justin Weatherby.
The family expresses gratitude to Dr. Todd Bauer, oncologist, and all the wonderful medical professionals at Tennessee Oncology and Sarah Cannon Cancer Center; the Ensworth family; and the many wide-spread family members and friends who prayed us through the past three years.
