He is survived by his daughter Jaynie (Carl), six grandchildren: Alexander, Chloe, Gretchen, Elijah, Tessa and Jonah; along with 5 great-grandchildren, an older brother, 2 nieces and 3 nephews.
He was the youngest graduate of Nashville Auto Diesel College, beginning a lifelong career in high performance engines and racing. He raced Top Fuel Dragsters and became a respected figure in the racing world. He later founded and owned Grooms Engines in Nashville, building the highly esteemed company from the ground up and earning a reputation for excellence, integrity and craftsmanship.
He was considered an icon within the racing community, especially around the Nashville Speedway circuit.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was an avid traveler who embraced adventure and new experiences.
His race was run, now victory won.
