She is preceded in death by the love of her life, Horace William Thoni, to whom she was married for 35 years; her second husband, J. Horace Hornberger; her parents Madeleine Enneking Otto and Joseph Albert Otto, nine of her eleven brothers and sisters, and her brother-in-law, Msgr Philip F. Thoni.
Rose is survived by her daughter, Angela (Peter) Power, son, Joseph (Libby) Thoni, 6 grandchildren -- Peter (Krista), Nick (fiancé, Natalie) and Meredith Power, Will, Elizabeth and Baird Thoni and 2 great-grandchildren, Nolan and Bennett Power, sister, Carmen (Jimmy) Morrissey; brother, John Bernard (Sheila) Otto; Sister-in-law, Norma Otto and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was a wonderful wife and mother, a talented homemaker, a favorite aunt and a devout, lifelong Catholic. “Mimi” was a beloved part of every milestone in her grandchildren’s lives from birth throughout the years and loved to be with them. Rose had a spunky personality and a love of laughter and babies. Up until the onset of her illness, she worked at the Plaid Rabbit (formerly The Children’s shop) where she had been an employee for the last 28 years. Until her final days, Rose lived a full life with a love for family, her faith, friends, tennis, water classes, adult tap dancing classes, and travel. She will be dearly missed by all that loved her.
The family would like to thank the family members and friends that stayed with Rose over the last four months and the loving nurses and caregivers at Alive Hospice for their care and services that provided comfort in her final days. Special thanks goes to her sister, Carmen Morrissey, for the countless days and nights spent with Rose over the last months and to Ana and Lisa, her loving caregivers at Alive Hospice.
A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, May 18, 2016 at St. Henry Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation with the family will be Tuesday, May 17, from 5pm until 7 pm, with a Rosary at 7p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Alive Hospice at 1718 Patterson Street or to St. Cecilia Academy at 4210 Harding Pike.
