Sara Puryear Mullins

MULLINS, Sara Puryear, age 96 of Nashville, passed away Thursday, February 7, 2013. Pre3ceded in death by her infant son, Walter Martin Mullins, Jr.; husband, Walter Martin “Moon” Mullins; parents, J.R. Puryear and Mamie Madray Puryear; sister, Nell Lee. She leaves behind her daughter, Kay Mullins; granddaughter, Casey Jackson; great grandchildren, Clint Hornaday, Jacob Jackson, Shiloh Jackson and Danielle Jackson; brother, James Puryear. Sara graduated from Martin College in Pulaski, TN and attended Andrew Jackson Business College in Nashville. She worked for National Life and Accident Insurance Co. and the City of Nashville Waterworks Dept. for many years. Sara was a member of Donelson Presbyterian Church of 55 years. After welcoming the birth of her daughter Kay, she became a stay at home mom. When Kay started to school, Sara began her long substitute teacher career. For over 20 years she did secretarial work but her substitute teaching was what she enjoyed. Upon entering a classroom to hear, “God, not you again!”, told her she had done her job. Graveside services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Monday, February 11, 2013 in Hermitage Memorial Gardens with Dr. Paul Casner officiating. Family and friends will serve as Pallbearers. Visitation with family 10:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m. Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Nashville Humane Association, 213 Oceola Ave., Nashville, TN 37209.
