

Sherman Halsey, age 56, formerly of Independence, passed away Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at his home in Nashville, TN. Funeral services for Sherman Halsey will be held at Twelve Noon on Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at Memorial Hall in Independence, KS, with The Reverend Cameron Randle, Rector of St. Georges Parish Churches, Accomac, VA, officiating. Private interment for the family will follow. Friends may call Monday from Nine O'clock in the morning until Seven O'clock in the evening with the family receiving friends from Six O'clock till Seven O'clock at Webb Family Funeral Service. To honor Sherman’s prestigious television and film career, his creativity and dedication to the University of Kansas, a scholarship is being created in his name. Sherman was born February 22, 1957, in Independence, KS, to Jim and Jo Ann (Sherman) Halsey. He attended local schools and graduated IHS in 1975. He began in the country music business at the age of 13 putting up posters and show bills for his father’s concert promotion company. While studying film at the University of Kansas, Sherman promoted concerts with artists from the Jim Halsey Companies roster. While at the university Sherman worked for Dick Clark Productions in Beverly Hills one summer on an NBC Special. After college, Sherman split his time between the agency, management, and record company division headquartered in Tulsa, and their Beverly Hills office where Sherman help develop the television production arm of the Halsey Company. As Vice Chairman of the Jim Halsey Company, he represented 47 of Country Music’s top stars. He held that position from 1980 -1990 when the Halsey’s sold the Agency division. They maintained ownership of the management and production divisions of the company. During this time, Sherman and his father, Jim, also headed the Halsey-owned MCA/ Churchill Record Company. He produced and directed hundreds of television shows and videos. He was the recipient of numerous awards including an MTV Award multiple ACM Awards for best Video, New York Film and Television Festivals Gold Medal Award, Gold Telly Awards, CMT Flame worthy and numerous others. Sherman also sat on the board of directors at the Academy of Country Music and serves as a judge on the ACM’s Blue Ribbon video committee. Most recently Sherman and his father were partners in the Halsey family of businesses. Survivors of Sherman Halsey include: His mother, Jo Ann Halsey, Lawrence, KS. Father and step-mother, Jim and Minisa Halsey, Mounds, OK. Sister, Gina Halsey, Lawrence, KS. Step-sister, Crissy and step-brother, Woody. Services under the direction of Webb Family Funeral Service of Independence. The needs of the family while in Nashville were trusted to Woodlawn Roesch-Patton Funeral Home.
