Susan S. Abernathy

Susan (Smith) Abernathy, age 78, beloved wife and mother, went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, October 21, 2014. Susan was a native of Fayetteville, TN. She was a faithful and active member of Crievewood United Methodist Church for over 56 years. Susan dearly loved people and always placed the needs of others before her own. She enjoyed participating in church activities, traveling, and in earlier years, bowling and attending her daughters' sporting events. Susan possessed a great love for animals, especially cats. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Her unconditional love and enormous heart will forever be precious to those whose lives she touched and especially to "Buddy," Holly, and Pam, who cherish and love her immensely. Susan was preceded in death by her parents, William Bryant and Louise Caughran Smith. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wayne; daughters, Holly Gittings (Mark) and Pam; nephews, Bobby and Patrick Phillips; niece, Elsie West; and several cousins, including Mary Simmons, who provided much love and support to "Susie" and her family. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at two-thirty in the afternoon on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Crivewood United Methodist Church, 451 Hogan Rd. Interment will follow from Woodlawn Memorial Park.Visitation will be held from four o'clock in the afternoon until eight on Friday, October 24, two o'clock in the afternoon until eight on Saturday, October 25th at Woodlawn Roesch Patton Funeral Home and also for one hour prior to service time at Crievewood United Methodist Church.
