

September 18, 1931. He is preceded in death by parents Herman and Annie Henkel and siblings
Rev. Albert Henkel, Agnes Frey, Gus Henkel, Josie Hildebrand, Angie Bricks and Margaret
Catignani. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Helen, and sister, Sister Mary Ann Francis RSM.
Sylvester attended Father Ryan High School and proudly served in the U.S. Navy during the
Korean War, honorably discharged in 1954. He went on to study at Draughon’s Business College
to prepare for a career in accounting.
He was a lifelong member of St. Ann Catholic Church and was devoted to his faith and family.
A kid at heart until the end, he was known for his good cheer, good manners and sunny outlook
at his final earthly home, Brighton Gardens of Brentwood.
The family expresses appreciation to the Brighton Gardens caregivers and staff, as well as those
at Mary Queen of Angels, for their care during his final years.
Visitation with the family will be on Sunday February 24, from 3 – 7 pm with Rosary service at 4
pm at Marshall-Donnelly Combs Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday
February 25 at 11 am at St. Ann Catholic Church, followed by burial at Calvary Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Ann Catholic School or Father Ryan High School.
