
NEWELL, Terry Charles- A creative visionary with a keen eye for detail, Terry Newell spent most of his career in television, where he worked primarily as a photographer and video editor. Much of his career was spent around celebrities, yet those who knew Terry best would say that his most memorable qualities were his unassuming and gentle, spontaneous spirit. Born in Corpus Christi, TX on July 14, 1950, Terry grew up in Cleveland, OH and attended Cleveland State University. He began his 35-year television career behind the camera, filming news stories and shooting for NFL Films. Terry continued his video career in Nashville and Atlanta before heading west to Los Angeles and San Francisco where he worked in film editing and production. When he relocated to Nashville in the mid 1980s, Terry worked for the syndicated TV show, PM Magazine. Terry’s talent caught the eye of Jim Owens & Associates where he was hired as an editor for the company’s nationally-aired shows Crook and Chase, This Week in Country Music, Weekend and Weekend with Crook and Chase. Terry also worked on a number of TV specials produced by the company, including the TNN Music City News Country Awards preview show, Funny Business with Charlie Chase, Celebrities Offstage with Lorianne Crook, and the CMA Awards preview. In 2000, Terry married his beloved wife Beth Mulhall Underwood Newell, who shared his love of life and passion for travel. Together they explored ports of call around the world, which offered them the opportunity to share a lifelong dream. In addition to his wife Beth, Terry is survived by his daughter Amanda Newell, and her mother Rebecca Anderson; his sister Karen Young (Michael), Nevada City, CA; his brother Dr. Gary Newell (Donna), Chesapeake Bay, VA; and Kent Newell (Kelly), Aiken SC, five nieces and nephews; Beth’s daughter Sally Underwood, Nashville, and son Larry Underwood (Amy), Greenville, SC,; and Sadie and Murphy, the couple’s two loving rescue dogs. Terry lost his battle with cancer on May 27, 2012. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Nashville Humane Association or the American Cancer Society. MARSHALL-DONNELLY-COMBS
