Thomas M Murphy

On the afternoon of Friday September 18, 2015, while surrounded by his loving family, Thomas (Tom) Murphy, 60, of Mt. Juliet, TN died following a battle with melanoma cancer. Tom was born to Robert and Mary Bernice Murphy. Tom spent his childhood in Arlington Heights, IL and most of his adult life in Nashville, TN. Tom graduated from St. Viator High School in 1973, and then from Marquette University with a B.A. in Industrial Communications (class of 1977). He married Suzanne (nee Watts) Murphy on 10/08/1983 in St. Paul, MN prior to relocating to Nashville, TN in 1985.

Tom worked for 35 years for 3M, most of those as a Sales Account Executive in 3M/ ESPE Dental Division. Tom was a member of the Knights of Columbus and previously served as a board member of the Tennessee Dental Association. While Tom’s accomplishments in his life’s work were numerous, his greatest accomplishment in life was being a loving husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His legacy will live on in the relationships that he built so carefully with love, humor, faith and dedication. Tom is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Suzanne “Suz” Murphy (nee Watts) of Mt. Juliet, TN; his children, son Michael Murphy of Mt. Juliet, TN, daughter Kelly (Joshua) Gonzales of Colorado Springs, CO, and son Brian Murphy, of Mt. Juliet, TN; his mother, Mary Bernice Murphy of Naperville, IL; his sisters, Maureen Piszczor of Lisle, IL, and Debbie Schubert of Naperville, IL; his mother in law Karen Watts and father in law Daryl Watts, along with his nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends across the country. Tom was preceded in death by his father, Robert (Bernice) Murphy; and his brothers-in-laws, James (Maureen) Piszczor, Robert (Debbie) Schubert, and Raymond (Maureen) Glorioso.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22 from 4:00-8:00pm at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00am on Wednesday, September 23 at Holy Rosary Catholic Chur. For additional information please contact Hibbett & Hailey Funeral Home 615-883-2361.
