

Mrs. Vassie Hale Sperry Rogers age 88, of Franklin, TN, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2016. Mrs. Rogers was born in McMinnville, TN, on October 30, 1927, the daughter of the late Charlie Thomas Hale and Sallie Mae Moss Hale. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Franklin, TN and formerly a long-time member of McKendree United Methodist Church. Mrs. Rogers was a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star Madison-East Nashville Chapter #1. She was a member and past president of the Oak Hill Garden Club and a lifetime member of the National Council of Garden Clubs, Inc. (NGC), Deep South Region, and Tennessee Federation of Garden Clubs, Inc. (TFGC). Mrs. Rogers was a former Director and longtime Chaplain and Parliamentarian of TFGC District II, a member of the TFGC District II Judges Council and a Former Chairman of the Tennessee Council of Nationally Accredited Flower Show Judges in District II. She was a NGC Master Flower Show Judge, held many positions on the TFGC State Board and was well-known for her achievements in floral design and horticulture. Mrs. Rogers was a dedicated mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an accomplished seamstress and painter. A founding member of the JPG Artists group, she exhibited her paintings in Nashville, TN and Paris, France. Vassie loved color, flowers and nature. A wonderful Designer, she was always willing to help her fellow artists, floral designers and flower show judges. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by husbands Ivan B. Lanier, Wesley Hull Sperry, and Hewitt Rogers; granddaughter, Sarah Ann Sperry; sister, Rubye Hale Dowlen; and a brother, Carl B Hale. Survivors include a son, Dwight L. Sperry (Ann); a daughter, Misty Sperry Chambers (Gary); grandson, Wesley Hull Sperry, II (Carol); great-grandson, Jackson Sperry; sister-in-law, Jane Hale; nephew, Steve Binkley (Bonnie) and a niece, Staci Cruse (Bobby). A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, January 6, 2015, at eleven thirty in the morning, Woodlawn’s Dignity Hall with Rev. Mark Price officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park. Gathering of Family & Friends will be held Tuesday from four o’clock until seven o’clock and Wednesday from ten thirty until the funeral hour at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton-Funeral Home.
