SAN DIEGO - Senior Chief Dustin M. Marion, 42 of San Diego, CA (formerly Wilmington, DE) passed away unexpectedly on May 21, 2024. As a child through early adulthood Dustin was almost always seen with a soccer ball in tow. Often playing on multiple teams at the same time, it was clear from a young age that he was gifted with talent, a talent he passed on to his children. Dustin graduated from A.I. DuPont High School in 2000 with several athletic scholarships. However, in 2001 he made the decision to join the United States Navy as an Electrician Mate and deployed shortly after 9/11. In 2009, he joined the Explosive Ordinance Disposal Team as an EOD Technician. Among the many awards and accommodations, he received throughout his career, he was awarded 2 Purple Hearts, a Bronze Star, and a Medal of Valor for his tours in Afghanistan and Iraq. He was scheduled to retire from the USN on May 29th. Dustin, also known as ‘Dusty’ by many, held the idea of family close to his heart. Coming from a large family, it was no surprise that he joined another - his EOD family. Together they raised their children, celebrated wins, and mourned losses. One thing is certain, Dustin had so many people that loved him, and will truly miss him. He is preceded in death by his father, Donnie R. Farris. He is survived by his former spouse Magaly (Flores) Marion with whom he shares four beautiful children: Sadira Marion of San Diego, Roman Marion, Franco Marion, and Dominick Marion all of San Antonio, TX. Siblings Daniel Farris (Ariel) of Charlottesville, VA, Monica Farris of Stuart’s Draft, VA, and Nicole Florian (Bryan) of Middletown, DE. He is also survived by his parents Jeffrey and Karen (Standarowski) Marion of Wilmington, DE. Dustin was a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews, and a beloved nephew and cousin to many. In honoring Dustin’s memory, let us look back on his life and cherish the laughs, the smiles, and the lasting impact he had on so many lives. His sacrifices will not be forgotten, and he will live on in all those who carry his memory with them. Private services for immediate family will be held at Funeraria del Angel in National City, CA and a celebration of life will be held at a future date and time. The family requests that anyone wishing to do so, please consider a donation in Dustin’s name to EOD Wounded Warrier Foundation or Tunnel to Towers.
