It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Jimmy Boykin, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Jimmy passed away on Saturday, April 15th 2023 due to complications from a long standing illness. He was surrounded by his family in his home in Bonita, California.
Jimmy was born on September 24th, 1950, in Charleston, South Carolina to his late parents Marvin Willard Boykin and Mary Evelyn Grice Atkinson and was the oldest of four children. He is survived by his sister Judy Ladiner of Theodore, Alabama, his sister Margie Thompson of Hartsville, South Carolina and predeceased by his brother Marvin(Marty) Boykin Jr. Jimmy grew up in the South and graduated from high school before enlisting in the U.S. Navy. With hard work and dedication he rose in ranks from an enlisted seaman to becoming an Officer and after 30 years served with honor and distinction he retired from the Navy as a Lieutenant.
After retiring from the Navy, Jimmy became a Civilian Contractor for the government and then a Program Manager for PMW-170. Jimmy loved to work and took great pride in it. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail and his ability to solve problems. He worked tirelessly to ensure that every project was completed on time, on budget and to the highest standards.
Jimmy was a devoted husband to his wife of 50 years, Naty Boykin, and a loving father to his three children, Jimmy Boykin Jr. and his wife Christina Boykin, Christopher Boykin and his wife Ruby Lee, and Lisa Aceves and her husband Tony Aceves. He was a proud and doting grandfather to his six grandchildren who he loved with all of his heart. Jimmy also had many pets that he loved over the years, but he had a special fondness for his late dog Peaches.
Jimmy loved gathering around the table with his family, enjoying good food and each other’s company. Ice cream was a particular favorite. Jimmy also had a passion for baseball, his favorite teams were the Atlanta Braves and the San Diego Padres. He could often be found catching a game on TV or at the ballpark. Jimmy loved to draw, was always curious and liked to learn about new things.
Jimmy will be remembered for his kindness, his generosity and his unwavering love for his family. He dedicated his life to providing and caring for his family and made many sacrifices throughout the years to give them a life filled with love and security. He had a calm presence, was a good listener and could always make you feel special and loved. He had a good sense of humor and loved telling corny jokes or singing silly songs to make his children and grandchildren smile and laugh. He lived everyday to make the lives of his family better and asked for nothing in return.
A celebration of Jimmy’s life will be held on Monday, April 24th, 2023 starting with a blessing at 10am, followed by a viewing until 7pm at the Funeraria del Angel in National City, San Diego.
