Willie Quill Pettway

Willie graduated from Sidney Lanier High School in 1971 and soon after joined the U.S. Army, where he enjoyed traveling to Germany and other countries. After serving for four years, he moved to Germany, where he built a life and welcomed his first child, Vanessa. Willie had a deep love for music and dancing, and even played in a band while living there.

In 1994, he returned to the U.S. and began working at the U.S. Postal Service, dedicating his final working years there. He settled in San Diego, where he met his wife, Akina, and together they welcomed their sons, Justin and Derrell. Willie shared a beautiful life with Akina and took great pride in his family.

Willie leaves behind his children: Vanessa, Justin, and Derrell Pettway, and was a devoted grandfather to Colleen.

Willie is also survived by his three brothers: Charles Mooney Sr. (Edna), Harian Pettway (Mildred), and Darryl Pettway (Ronda).

Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved sister, who preceded him in death, Belinda Smith.

Willie leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and devoted friends, who were touched by his love, and kindness.
