It is with heartfelt sadness, that we announce the peaceful passing of our loving husband, father and Nonno, Antonio Buccini, on October 28, 2024 at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by his family.
He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years Pierina, children Rosanna (Tim) and Giuseppe (Anna), along with grandchildren Catherine, Matthew, Sara and Maya. He also leaves behind his brother Giovanni, sister Maria, sister-in-law Emilia (late Carmine); brothers-in-law Francesco Caputo (Gerardina), Angelo Caputo (late Vera), Ottavio Caputo (Giovanna) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Antonio is predeceased by his parents Giuseppe and Maria Requilda Buccini, and brother Carmine.
Antonio was born in Villalago, Italy, and at the age of nineteen, he immigrated to Winnipeg with his brother Carmine. He often talked of the boat trip to this new place he came to call “home”. He was proud to be Canadian. Antonio was a man of many talents with diverse experiences. He learned to speak English while working as a cook in a restaurant until 1963, when he was “up to eyeballs” in cooking and chose to move on. Lucky for us, he continued to make his famous clubhouse sandwiches, apple pies, and mostaccioli cookies for his family and friends. Antonio then worked with Accurate Dorwin for thirty-seven years. However, he never liked to stay idle as he took pride in his garden, grafting his fabulous apple tree, and making crib boards for all of his children and grandchildren. He was an avid card player and enjoyed his BINGO. He liked watching the Winnipeg Jets hockey games and wrestling on television. Antonio looked forward to his daily trips to Polo Park, stopping for afternoon coffee and a visit with his lifelong friends. He found his greatest happiness in the company of his family and loved ones, and was fortunate to have great friends that were more like family. Antonio loved being surrounded by his grandchildren, and they will forever cherish him. He was a hard-working and kind man, whose wisdom and quiet strength will be deeply missed. He will forever be in our hearts.
Our family would like to express our most sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Spencer and to all staff of unit 4E and the Emergency Department, who provided such compassionate care to our father and family.
