It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Ed Wieler. Ed passed away at Kenora Hospital on February 9, 2019 at the age of 75 years.
Predeceased by his parents Peter and Margaret Wieler with whom he will find his final resting place.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife Edna of 30 wonderful years and his pride and joy, his sons Paul and Michael, His sister Karen and Dr. Frank Broomhead and several nephews and nieces, Ken and Joselyn Broomhead and children Ryley and McKenna, Dr.Kendra and Dr. Steve Saari and Megen and Jack, Keith and Pam Broomhead and children Keaton, McKinley and Kedin, Jr and Lynn Broomhead, and many cousins in Canada and Germany.
He will also be missed by extended family of eleven sisters and brothers, sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws and many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Ed was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
After high school he continued taking Business Courses at the University of Manitoba. He graduated with honors and also completed a two year draftsman certified program.
In his earlier years he began his career in Sales and traveled throughout Canada and lived in many different cities with his career in the meat business. In his later years he decided to start his own business known as “Favorite Meats” until retirement.
Ed enjoyed traveling. In his earlier years he traveled to Europe many times with friends and the Saracens Rugby team. He enjoyed many trips skiing in the mountains with family and friends. Most of all he loved skiing with Paul and Michael racing down the mountains at Lake Louise and Sunshine.
Ed was very competitive in sports. He participated in Curling, Rugby, Hockey and Golf in his earlier years and is a lifetime member of the SARACENS Rugby club. He enjoyed working on sudokus, puzzles and reading the paper.
Ed worked hard all his life and family was the most important to him. Ed was a kind and gentle man with a big heart. He was always ready to offer a helping hand. Ed enjoyed many outdoor activities with Paul and Michael. His family was the highlight of his life. He always had so much pride for his boys.
On October 29, 1988 Ed married the love of his life Edna Wollmann and together they had two boys Paul and Michael. Ed was a family man. His family always came first and he loved to watch his boys play sports and was always there for them.
Ed enjoyed the outdoors; Camping, hiking, golfing, cycling and chopping wood. Falcon Lake was his very favorite place. He enjoyed skiing, and snowmobiling in the winter and water sports in the summer. Ed enjoyed Fishing, Water skiing, Tubing with the boys and their friends. He loved hanging out on the dock swimming with friends and family. Ed always had the BBQ going and a cold drink for everyone.
Ed volunteered at many different organizations over the years;
BSLC and BSLS for many years as well as served many meals at soup kitchens throughout Winnipeg. He also volunteered in many fundraisers for inner city youth sports programs. He also volunteered his experience in business to many businesses that called him for assistance.
Ed loved hockey and football and hardly ever missed a grey cup game. His last Grey cup game he attended was with Paul and Michael in November 2018 in Edmonton. A memory Paul and Michael will cherish forever.
Paul and Michael planned a trip to the Daytona NASCAR 500 races February 11, 2019 with Ed. A gift they gave Ed for his 75th birthday last year. That was the happiest birthday celebration ever. Ed always wanted to go to the NASCAR races. He always attended the races in Manitoba with the boys when they were younger. He shed many happy tears that day!
In August 2018 we sold our house in Winnipeg and moved to Falcon Lake our retirement home. We had plans to travel and spend our winters in Puerto Vallarta Mexico.
The things most precious to Ed were his wife Edna, his boys Paul and Michael and his dog Sasha that followed him around everywhere. Ed truly was an easy-going guy with a wealth of knowledge and could make anyone laugh.
We will miss your smile, your laughter, your jokes and our conversations about sports and politics. We will miss your kind heart and spiritual soul.
We thank the Falcon Lake Paramedics, fire department and Police for their quick response and hard work as well as the doctors and nurses at Kenora hospital for their compassion and care.
In lieu of flowers we would ask that we all be humble and kind in our daily lives.

A celebration of Ed`s life will be held at Beautiful Saviour Lutheran Church 1541 St. Mary`s Road Winnipeg, MB. Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00am.
