It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of Harold Surminski on Tuesday May 30, 2017 at Riverview Health Centre, after a brave but short battle with cancer. Harold will be lovingly missed by his wife Vicki of 39 years, children; Paul (Amanda), David (Gillian) and Kevin (Ellie), grandchildren; Juliana, Ben and Jack.
Harold was predeceased by his father Mike Surminski and father-in-law George Dracass. He will be greatly missed by his mother Helen Surminski, his two sisters; Judy Lee, Dinah (Jim) Cymbalisty; nephews; Jeremy, Dustin and Braeden, mother-in-law Margaret Dracass, sister-in-law Diane Dracass (Bob), brothers-in-law; Mark and Brian Dracass, and his many cousins.
Born and raised in Poplarfield Manitoba, Harold obtained his civil engineering degree at the University of Manitoba, master’s degree from the University of Waterloo, and enjoyed a 37 year career as a Professional Engineer at Manitoba Hydro. After his retirement, Harold enjoyed spending time at the family cottage at Wanipigow Lake and at the family farm. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and taking them out for their first fishing trips.
Harold loved the outdoors and could often be found fishing, gardening, or flying his ultralight aircraft. He enjoyed playing slow pitch baseball in the summer and curling in the winter months.
A special thank you to friends and neighbors who supported the family through this difficult time, as well as the staff at CancerCare at the Victoria Hospital and Riverview Health Centre for their kindness and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to CancerCare Manitoba.
Arrangements under the direction of Green Acres Funeral Home and Cemetery, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
