She married Geert Engbers on October 10, 1942 and they immigrated to Canada in 1952 with four children. Two more children were born in Canada, but the early years in this new land were full of challenges as Geert developed heart trouble, forcing them to leave the farm in Clandeboye and move to Transcona to be closer to medical services.
Henny worked hard her whole life but was never happier than when she was knitting or crocheting for charity and her family, who are all the grateful recipients of countless afghans, socks, and other needlework projects. She loved to travel to the mountains and made many road trips out west as well as regular trips across Canada to visit her children.
Henny is survived by her children: John (Cea), Emma, Bill (Kim), Alex (Shirley), Brian (Ellen), Anne (Ed), 19 grandchildren, 43 great-grandchildren, 18 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nephews and nieces. Henny was predeceased by her husband Geert, son in law Herb, grandson Alex and grandson in law Kevin.
The family wishes to send a special thank you to the staff of Extendicare Maples for their kindness shown to Henny and the family in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.
