Also, many other aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and of course, her powwow family.
Jackie is finally reunited with the love of her life, Richard Paul, who left us in 2017, and was predeceased by mom Hilda, dad Robert, brother Joey, maternal grandparents Fred & Doris Greene, paternal grandparents Florence and Joseph Major, her Aunties; Gloria, Fran and JR(Julia), her Uncle Norbert, Aunty Mary Major and her best friend Judy Hunter (Lil Judy) and many other beloved relatives who left before her.
Jackie was born in Winnipeg at the former Women's Pavillion. She grew up in Windsor Park and was from Big Grassy, Ontario in Treaty 3. She was a great fancy-shawl dancer in her youth and placed many times all over powwow country and had a title of ‘North American Grand Champion Fancy Shawl Dancer’. She loved her dancing, loved to bead, loved travelling to powwows, she loved to play pool, and she especially loved her powwow family; (sister) Cindy Piche (Skead), Michelle Barrett, and Wanda Skead, just to name a few.
Jackie, along with her late brother Joey, always celebrated their birthdays every year in July at Whitefish Bay’s annual powwow.
Jackie passed on her love of her culture to all her children and proudly celebrated the Anishinaabe way traditions. She was well-known within the powwow circle and was happy about returning to the 'Dance Ring' before illness overcame her physical strength to continue her return to the dancing circle.
Jackie was a very comical, humorous person, who was never afraid to laugh out loud and she took no b.s from anyone. She showed genuine love and concern for all and was one of the most caring and selfless people who often put the needs of others before her own. She knew she had strength from the love she had in her heart and the love of her family. Jackie had a pure Ogiichidaa-kwe soul that drew many to her. Jackie will truly be missed by many. We will forever cherish the time we had with our beautiful (mother, sister, aunty, kok-kum) Jackie.
