It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Marie Driedger (nee Derksen) at the age of 86. She passed away peacefully at Bethania Personal Care Home.
She leaves to mourn children Valerie (Gerry), Keith (Antonine), Birdena and Karl (Brenda); grandchildren Danielle (Robert), David (Jessica), Karine (Kyle), Kristina (Brandon), Justin (Terese), Jordan (Ally) and Jonathan; and four great-granddaughters, Kaydance, Melodee, Ariana and Cloé.
Marie leaves to mourn her brothers and sisters, Suszann, Rose (Bill), Dorean, Albert (Virginia), Dave (Elaine), Alice (Ed), Bennoe (Dorothy), Verna and DeAnna as well as other in-laws, nieces and nephews who were dear to her, as well as many friends.
Marie was predeceased by her husband of 62 years Anton (Tony) in 2020, her parents Pete and Dora, in-laws Helena and Abram, and most recently her brother in law Norm, and nephew Trevor.
Mom was born on September 3, 1938 in the RM of Montcalm to Peter and Dora Derksen. She was baptized in 1957 and married Dad on June 21, 1958.
She worked at Sterling Stall and later at Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg.
Mom loved baking so that she would always have something on hand for when visitors showed up. She provided us with many delicious meals and we will miss the home made buns and cinnamon buns. As young children we would get homemade donuts on Saturday night, even though she didn’t like the greasy mess.
Mom enjoyed being involved in the church. She was in the Keenager Choir, working with the ladies in the kitchen who were called the U-turns and being a Deacon.
Life for mom at Bethania included going to church on Sunday, attending concerts and other special events. When music was available, she was there. The staff always made her smile.
The family would like to thank the staff at Bethania for all the care Marie received, and to the family and friends who visited, over the past 2.5 years. It is very much appreciated.
