Marie- Jeanne was born in Gravelbourg, Saskatchewan on March 26, 1922. . When she was 15, due to lack of rain and poor crops, her family rented 2 boxcars for furniture plus 2 teams of horses and cattle, and moved to Manitoba where they leased a farm near LaBroquerie for 5 years. She attended a one-room schoolhouse until Grade 9. Since there was no money to pay room and board to continue her education at the convent, she stayed home to help her mom on the farm. When the family moved to Lorette, she worked as a cook at St. Amant Centre, then in a sewing factory before getting married to Henri in 1948 and raising 3 daughters. Widowed at 44 years of age, she returned to work in a restaurant on Corydon Ave., then ultimately in the diet kitchen, and later as a nurses’ aide at the Misericordia Hospital, from which she retired.
She faced her many physical trials with strength and courage. We are blessed to have loved her for so many years. She enjoyed the staff and her many friends at her residence Manoir de la Cathedrale. We are forever grateful to Rhonda and the staff at the Manoir for their caring. Also many thanks to her loving visitors that she enjoyed so much. Always ready for a game of cards or Racko, she was a keen competitor to the end.
