It is with sincere sadness that we announce the passing of Mary Christie Melnychenko on December 14, 2020 at Park Manor Personal Care Home. She succumbed to Covid-19 on her 88th birthday, just nine days after losing her loving husband Roy on December 5th.
She was also predeceased by her two precious children, Donna and Robert, parents George and Mary, brothers Stanley and George and her sister Doris, with whom she had a special lifelong bond.
Born to Scottish immigrants, Mary was a Canadian with a tartan twinkle in her eye and a "highland" sense of humour in her soul.
She married Roy in 1958 and together they shared 62 remarkable years. She devoted her life to her family, tirelessly addressing their changing needs with courage. She was exceptional!
Nature was an important element in Mary's life. This was reflected in her love for the outdoors, whether it was filling bird feeders, picking weeds or enjoying the scenery at Manitoba's beautiful lakesides.
Always a sports enthusiast, she enjoyed all facets of this pastime from football and baseball to the Olympics.
Mary took a keen interest in world events and was our "go-to" geography specialist. To many, however, her most notable achievements were in the kitchen. From her addictive baking to her scrumptious cabbage rolls, all would grace the table at holiday meals and be rapidly devoured.
She will be affectionately remembered by all who knew her.
Due to Covid-19 restrictions, a service will be held at a later date.
If you so desire, a donation may be made in her memory to the St. Amant Foundation.
