DECEMBER 4, 1921 – FEBRUARY 25, 2013
It is with sad hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Mary Stasynec. Mary passed away peacefully on February 25, 2013 at the age of 91.
Left to cherish her memory, her daughters Barbara (Les) Remillar, Patricia (Jeffery) Micko, granddaughter Elyse Remillard, 3 grandsons Eric Remillard, Chris Micko (Zuzana), Doug Micko (Julian), 4 great-grandchildren, brother Wally Zaharychuk (Mari) and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Anton and Anastasia Zaharychuk, husbands Frank Mazur and Nicholas Stasynec, infant son Robert Mazur, son William (Bill) Mazur, and 6 brothers and 1 sister.
Mary was born on December 4, 1921 in St. Phillips, Saskatchewan, and after completing school, Mary moved to Arran and Saskatoon for employment. Eventually, she moved to Winnipeg, where she later met her husband Frank Mazur. Mary and Frank lived in North Kildonan and started to raise a family. In 1957, William was born and a few years later Barbara was born. Mary would spend the rest of her life, loving and caring for her family. Besides caring for her family during the day, Mary worked evenings at Burns Meats as a comptometer operator for many years.
Sadly, Frank passed away in 1975 and Mary was lucky enough to remarry a wonderful man, Nicholas Stasynec. They spent two special years together, before Nick died of cancer. Mary loved to spend time with her family, especially her grand-children. Mary loved to travel with all of her family to places like Mexico and Florida, and during these trips many fond memories were created. Mary spent many years volunteering at the Concordia hospital before she suffered a severe stroke in 2002. Since that time she has lived at the Kildonan Persona l Care Centre until her passing. We would like to thank all the staff on the 3rd floor for their excellent care and the compassion they showed to both Mary and her family.
A celebration of Mary’s life will be held at 11:00am, Thursday February 28th at Holy Redeemer Parish, 264 Donwood Drive.
Interment will follow in Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road, Winnipeg, Manitoba.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mary’s memory to the Manitoba Heart and Stroke Foundation.
