It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our husband, father, and grandfather Randy Mitchell. Randy passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer on August 24, 2021, at St. Boniface Hospital, surrounded by his family at the age of 67.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife Linda of 44 years, daughters Charlene (Jason), and Brittany (Kevin), as well as grandchildren Bret, Hudson, Madison, and Avery.
Randy leaves behind his brothers and sisters who mourn his passing: Joyce (Darrell), Ken (Cindy), Maureen (Tom), Greg (Robynne), Odette (Bob), William (Joanne), and sister in-law Joan. In addition, his father in-law Charles Sciberras, Donnie (Valerie), Vicki (Rick), and Paul, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his parents Lorne & Alma Mitchell, brothers Gary & Derek, and sister Beverly, along with his mother in-law Rose, and brother in-law Peter.
Randy was born in Winnipeg on November 4, 1953, and was raised in the community of Anola, MB. He spent most of his adult life working for CP Rail in the Transcona Rail Yard and was an active union representative. After 36 years with the railway, he retired in 2012.
He enjoyed golf, baseball, weekends at the car races, watching sci-fi/paranormal tv shows, and of course watching his Winnipeg Jets. He recently took up playing ‘Kinsmen Jackpot Bingo’ on Saturday evenings with his wife, father in-law, and at times the grandkids over FaceTime. His most cherished moments were spent with his family, especially with his grandchildren. Randy enjoyed travelling out west to visit his family in Alberta and BC. He loved participating in all of the grandkids' dance and sporting events and most proud of each of their accomplishments.
The family would like to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital for his care and support. As well we would like to thank all our family and friends for their love and support.
A small, private family celebration of life will take place at Green Acres Funeral Home, on Thursday, September 9, 2021, at 2:00 PM. You are invited to join us virtually by clicking 'Join Livestream' in the Services tab below.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Randy’s memory to CancerCare Manitoba.
