It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Raymond (Ray) Robert Rainka. He passed away after a brief stay at Grace Hospital on May 19, 2025 at the age of 84. He was born on October 22, 1940 at home in Elk Ranch, MB.
Ray was predeceased by his wife Kathleen (Kay); daughter Jodi; parents, Peter and Nancy Rainka; brothers Chester, Eddie and Dennis; parents-in-law Richard Watters and Pearl Watters; brothers-in-law Edwin, Colin, George, Keith, Bill and Don and great-nephew, Blaine.
Ray leaves behind his children, Michele (Jeff), Shawna (Mike) and Darryl (Sheri); his grandchildren, Kayla, Heather (Tate), Wesley (Ali), Jennee, Casey (Charles), Dineen and great-granddaughter, Cleo
Also left to mourn are his siblings: Katherine, Stanley (Norma), Jim (Connie), Jack (Diane), Loretta (Dan) and sisters-in-law, Marilyn, Josephine, Carol, Evelyn, Gwen, Audrey and Janice and numerous nieces and nephews.
Ray was a drywaller by trade and moved his family numerous times over the years for his work. Some of those places included Calgary, Churchill, Pickle Lake, ON and Ottawa. He loved his camping and the trailer was towed to numerous campgrounds between Ontario and Alberta. A permanent trailer was finally purchased out at Lee River, MB. The "lake" was one of the best places his family got to experience. He was an avid horseshoe player and during the annual tournament every September long weekend, if you were picked to be on his team, you were most likely a "shoe" in for the prizes. He loved to watch his sports, including hockey, baseball, curling and golf. Most of his family learned all about golf or curling because if it was on the tv when you were visiting, it was left on to watch.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Gerard Roman Catholic Church, 45 Foster Avenue, Winnipeg, MB with interment to be at Green Acres Cemetery, Hwy #1 East at Navin Road.
Dad, you have suffered for far too long. May you now rest in peace.
