With heavy hearts Bob’s family announces his passing June 14, 2024 at Grace Hospital. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Carrie, his children Jim (Nicole), Susan (Tony), and Douglas (Barb), his grandchildren Erin (Griffith), Scott, Mark, Karine and Émilie, and his new great-grandchild Mackenzie. He will also be sadly missed by his stepchildren, Jen, Mike and Mark, and step-grandchildren Rileigh and Laighton.
Bob is survived by two sisters Marianne and Joyce. Predeceased by his first wife Margaret, three sisters, Ruth, Jean and Shirley, sisters-in-law Margaret and Vivian, three brothers Elmer, Douglas and Jim, and four brothers-in-law, Gordon, Jack, Don and Bill.
Bob grew up on the family farm in Dugald. He joined Winnipeg Transit in 1953 and spent 40 dedicated years, retiring in 1993 as Manager of Operations. Bob was inducted into the C.U.T.A Hall of Fame for his contribution to the transit systems throughout Canada.
Bob’s first priority was always family. He introduced his children to the beauty of nature and the excitement of travelling. Bob spent 20 happy years at Riverview Health Centre following a massive stroke while in Florida in 2004. He made many close friends and appreciated all the staff who cared so diligently over those years (too many to name but you all know who you are). Carrie and family thank you all so much.
Prior to his stroke, Dad loved working on the farm in his spare time, spending time at the cottage at Betula Lake and getting away for the winters in Florida. Following his stroke, outings to baseball games, movies, the theatre and family events were a great pleasure. He especially enjoyed family dinners at Riverview to celebrate birthdays and out of town visits.
A special thank you to Carrie for her love and commitment to support Dad. She was by his side to the end. We appreciate everything you did.
A celebration of life will be held August 25, 2024 at Green Acres Funeral Home at 2:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Riverview Health Centre Foundation, Heart and Stroke Foundation, CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, or charity of your choice are appreciated.
