Ronald Kenneth Fehr was born in Winnipeg on May 25, 1951. He was predeceased by his parents, Jacob and Helen Fehr. He will be greatly missed by his wife Sheryl, son Alan, daughters Jaclyn (Daniel), Rachel (Carl), his five grandchildren: Arianna, Grayson, William, Victoria and Alexander, and his sister Elvera (Joel) and their daughters Stephanie and Clarissa and her family and by numerous relatives and friends.
After leaving school Ron worked various jobs and ended up at CN where he stayed for 26 years. He started there by shoveling coal out of boxcars at the powerhouse and eventually worked his way to being a purchasing clerk in the offices. After retiring from CN he then worked for Philips & Temro and DeFehr Furniture as a shipper/receiver until his permanent retirement in 2009.
Ron enjoyed spending time with his family and getting together for special occasions. He was so proud of his grandchildren, and we could see the delight in his eyes when he met his youngest grandson, Alexander, the day he passed.
Every day he could be found sitting at the dining room table working on his Free Press crossword puzzle. He also enjoyed working on Photomosaic jigsaw puzzles, so much so that when he completed all the ones he could find in the stores, he contacted the puzzle company, and they sent him the final three that were available at the time.
He was a great fan of the Winnipeg Jets and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and we know that he will be cheering the Bombers on during the Banjo Bowl and the Labour Day classic.
Ron loved putzing around the yard. Snow shoveling wasn’t a favourite but mowing the lawn was and our yard was the only one with intricate designs when he was done.
Although he endured multiple health challenges over the years, he still smiled and was not shy about sharing his quirky sense of humour. Because of his quick wit and ready comebacks, you had to be on your toes when talking to him. You just never knew what he was going to come out with next.
Everyone knew of Ron’s love of The Beatles, and in his family “ABR” (anything Beatles related) was all he asked for when gift ideas were requested.
Ron passed away peacefully, with no discomfort on Friday August 9th with his wife holding his hand and his children around him as we all listened to the Beatles.
Thank you to the doctors, nurses and health care staff at the Winnipeg Health Sciences Center who took such good care of Ron.
