1926 - 2013
It is with much sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Rosa (Rose) Boulet, on September 24, 2013, at St. Boniface Hospital.
Predeceased by her loving husband Romeo Boulet, daughter-in-law Elaine Boulet, and siblings Leon, Andre, Paul, Lorraine, Joseph, John, and Agathe, she leaves to mourn her cherished family: daughter Patricia, and sons Jacques (Carolyn), Reg (Brenda), Marc (Lois), Dan (Sharon); grandchildren Sheila, Nicole, Michael, Jacqueline, Melissa, Sarah, Scott, Jesse, Mitch, Danielle, Kevin, Michelle; great-grandchildren Tyler, Taylor, Destiny, and Daniel. Rose is also survived by her brothers Ivan (Bernie), Larry (Cecile), Lou (Rosemary) and sisters-in-law June and Anita.
Rose was born on March 17, 1926, the daughter of Eugene Champagne and Germaine Tougas, and grew up in St- Anne, Manitoba. As the eldest daughter in a large family, Rose helped her mother in much of the household work, including all the family’s sewing; skills which would serve her well when she had her own large family to care for.
In 1946 she ventured to the big city and worked at the Sanatorium of St. Boniface until her marriage to Romeo Boulet on June 21, 1948. Together they raised their daughter and four sons in the Weston area of Winnipeg. In addition to the lively atmosphere of a family of seven, their home was a refuge for the Champagne and Boulet families visiting from out-of-town, and Rose was ever the family matriarch at the center of it all.
After raising her family, Rose returned to work outside of the home and used her expert sewing skills to make costumes for the Manitoba Theatre Centre, and the Royal Winnipeg Ballet , Rainbow Stage and Cercle Moliere, where she was head seamstress. In 1980 she was hired to be the manager for the Parish of Sacred Heart, a position that involved multiple responsibilities, and one where Rose could fully utilize her excellent leadership and organizational skills. Rose was always willing to get involved, and had many interests and creative talents, including choir, theatre, parish groups, and many involvements with the French-Canadian community in St. Boniface. A natural leader, she was often at the head of any group she was a part of, and her integrity and strength of character inspired us all.
Rose and Romeo were married for 55 years until Romeo’s passing on August 30, 2003. Although Rose carried on for the last 10 years with courage, she remained heartbroken. December 2008 Rose moved to the Manoir de la Cathedrale, which she enjoyed very much. The family would like to thank Rhonda and her staff at the Manor for their kindness and support to Rose, it is truly appreciated. We also express our sincere gratitude to the staff at Ward 5B, St. Boniface Hospital, for your compassionate and considerate care of our mom since July 2, 2013.
